  NFHS RULE CLARIFICATION Eyewear Protection and Molded Face Masks

  All Field Hockey field players in Connecticut are required to use eyewear protection (goggle or Bangors) which meet the ASTM standard. If the athlete also wishes to wear the molded face mask they may do so with the required eyewear protection (goggle or Bangors). The use of goggles with the facemask is permitted by NFHS rules. It should be noted that the facemasks are not ASTM approved and the manufacturers make no claim that the facemasks will provide protection from injury. If a player chooses to use a facemask, she should read and follow the manufacturer's instructions. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER A PLAYER IS WEARING A FACEMASK OR NOT, THE CIAC REQUIREMENT FOR EYEWEAR PROTECTION REMAINS IN EFFECT. The CIAC Eyewear Requirement can be found here.
