 Dear Legal Mailbag:
One of the parents in my school has it out for a fifth grade teacher who gave his son a bad grade on a paper. He has made various Freedom of Information Act requests concerning this teacher, including his attendance record, resume, complaint letters and the like. I released all of this information to the parent. However, now the parent wants copies of the teacher’s lesson plans. I am in a box on this one. Continued

Student Voices Video Contest Winners Announced
 Back in February, CAPSS and CAS challenged students in grades 6-12 to develop short videos highlighting their best ideas for improving education. Four months later, the videos have been reviewed by a panel of educational and community leaders; the public has voted; and the winners have been chosen!

SDE Awards Recognize Student Service
The CT State Department of Education is calling for nominations for the statewide Challenge to Educational Citizenship Award Program. These awards are designed to celebrate student-organized activities that demonstrate good citizenship, a commitment to others, civic awareness, leadership, responsibility and teamwork, and that provide opportunities for students to help others. Seeking High School Voices in State Education Issues
High school principals are invited to nominate a student to be considered for service as a member of the State Student Advisory Council on Education (SSACE). The council gives Connecticut students a voice in education planning and provides educational decision-makers with high school students’ perspectives on key issues.
