Last Call for High School Arts Banquet - Seeking Student to Sing National Anthem
 Registration for the Annual High School Arts Awards Banquet closes on March 7th. The banquet, for seniors who excel in either the performing or visual arts, will be held on Tuesday, April 8th at the Aqua Turf. This year's keynote speaker will be Edward Cummings, Primrose Fuller Professor of Orchestral Studies at The Hartt School-University of Hartford. CAS Offers Teacher Leadership
Workshop Series
 CAS is pleased to announce its newest professional learning series which will empower teacher-leaders within the school districts of our state. The five-day workshop series will address key topics such as: instructional leadership; leading change; analyzing personal leadership capacities and those of their colleagues; developing a personal Theory of Action; conducting difficult conversations as a prelude to change; establishing and sustaining PLCs; and, working with diverse perspectives.

Leadership & Advocacy Conference for Health and Phys Ed Coordinators
 Join health and physical education leaders from across the state for an informative and motivating day of leadership development. This year’s program will include innovative approaches to building community relationships and renewing focus on school wellness polices. Participants will:

* learn about a Connecticut town’s success story;
* have access to a wealth of school health and physical education resources and exhibitors; and,

Football Rule Changes Address Safety Concerns
 In an effort to reduce contact above the shoulders and lessen the risk of injury in high school football, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Football Rules Committee developed a definition for “targeting,” which will be penalized as illegal personal contact. The definition of targeting and its related penalty were two of 10 rules changes approved by the NFHS last month. MORE
Creating Successful School Climate Plans
 CAS is pleased to offer a regional series of half-day workshops that will feature school visits and discussions on creating successful school climate plans. These workshops will focus on what every school needs to do to design and implement a comprehensive climate plan. MORE
2014 Challenge to Educational Citizenship Awards
 The state department of education is now accepting submissions from Connecticut middle and high schools for the statewide Challenge to Educational Citizenship Awards. Any student-organized activity that represents a "good deed" is eligible for submission. MORE
CCSS Field Test Manual Available
 The Smarter Balanced Test Administration Manual (TAM) for the Field Test is now available on the Smarter Balanced Field Test portal. The manual provides information regarding test security, test administration, accessibility and accommodations options available to students, and other information that is critical to ensuring a successful field test experience for educators and students. The manual, along with ten online training modules, should be used to prepare educators and students for the Smarter Balanced Field Test. MORE
