WHITE PAPER ON PERSONALIZED LEARNING RELEASED

CAS staff worked as part of a team of educators - which included representatives from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE), Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) and Regional Education Service Centers (RESCs) - to develop a white paper entitled: “A Look to the Future: Personalized Learning in Connecticut.” While the content of the paper does not suggest or propose a new set of mandates for school districts, it presents a rationale for the transformation of our educational system and proposals which would remove barriers freeing districts to innovate. Throughout January, this paper will be presented to state department officials, the State Board of Education, Connecticut legislators and the press. We hope you will have an opportunity to review this important document.

LEGAL MAILBAG

The Legal Mailbag column is written by Attorney Thomas Mooney of the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education. Readers are invited to submit short, law-related questions of practical concern to school administrators. One question and its answer will be published in this column each week. Questions may be edited; authors will not be identified; and answers cannot be considered formal legal advice. Please submit questions to: legalmailbag@casciac.org

Dear Legal Mailbag:
Every day we see the headlines about terrorism and inhumanity in various places in the world, and we should all be thankful that we live in a country that is safe and tolerant. Sometimes I worry that the middle school students where I work take our country for granted. Therefore, I make sure that all of the teachers in my school lead their students in saying the Pledge of Allegiance each day. Unfortunately, a little miscreant in my school is trying to cause trouble by railing against the Pledge. small-blue-arrow.png MORE
