CAS OFFERS ADMINISTRATOR EVALUATION WORKSHOP
CAS is hosting a state-sponsored workshop on administrator evaluation and support on February 1-2, 2016, at the CAS office in Cheshire. This two-day, no-cost workshop will examine the four components of the administrator evaluation and support process. New administrators or observers of administrators who have yet to take this basic program are encouraged to attend.

UPCOMING SAT WORKSHOP FOCUSES ON SOCIAL STUDIES
As a follow-up to CAS’ very popular series of presentations on the recent changes in the PSAT and the upcoming changes in the SAT, Alan Bernstein, senior director for the College Board, is returning to CAS on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, to discuss how College Board assessments can inform social studies curriculum and instruction.

JOIN US FOR JANUARY SESSION ON CT CORE STANDARDS
The next session in the 2015-2016 CT Core Standards Leadership Community of Practice series will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the CAS Office in Cheshire. This session, entitled “Implementation of Connecticut Core Standards: Looking at the Impact on Student Progress and School Climate,” will feature a panel from the Bloomfield and West Hartford School Districts. Principals are encouraged to attend and may bring members of their teaching staff along.

SURVEY SHOWS USE OF CLASS RANKINGS IN CT HIGH SCHOOLS
Administrators in Enfield recently surveyed all of the state’s high schools to determine how many still maintain class rankings. Of the 188 schools that responded, 45 do not report class rankings; 122 use numerical rankings; and, 15 use decile rankings. Click here to view the full report.

CALLING ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL DEBATERS!
The Connecticut Middle School Debate League's next competition will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Eastern Middle School in Greenwich. The motion will be: This House believes that the United States should curtail free speech rights in order to combat terrorism. All middle schools are welcome to participate!

UPDATE ON REDESIGN OF NEASC ACCREDITATION PROCESS
The Commission on Public Secondary Schools of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) has undertaken a redesign of the accreditation process. George Edwards, the newly appointed director of NEASC’s Commission on Public Schools, provides an update on the work being done by a group of dedicated superintendents, principals, teachers, and others from the school communities of the six New England states.

CSDE HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL COHERENCE CONFERENCE
The Connecticut State Department of Education is sponsoring its second annual "Moving from Compliance to Coherence” conference on February 25, 2016, at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell. The focus of this year’s event will be aligning student and educator goals and practices. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with one another in sharing successful practices for aligning educator and student goals that link effective instruction to rigorous student learning standards.
