CAS TEAMS UP WITH TWO MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO DEVELOP YOUNG LEADERS OF COLOR

In 2015, in response to the gross under representation of young men of color in leadership programs in Connecticut, the Connecticut Association of Schools began running leadership conferences specifically designed for this population of students. As a result of our most recent conference in December, two Connecticut middle schools, in conjunction with CAS, have developed ongoing leadership development programs that promote a shift in the culture of the schools in how young men of color are viewed, supported and challenged. LEGAL MAILBAG

The Legal Mailbag column is written by Attorney Thomas Mooney of the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education. Readers are invited to submit short, law-related questions of practical concern to school administrators. One question and its answer will be published in this column each week. Questions may be edited; authors will not be identified; and answers cannot be considered formal legal advice. Please submit questions to: legalmailbag@casciac.org

Dear Legal Mailbag:
I am blessed, I think, because a wealthy new family just enrolled two children in my school, and the father has taken a great interest in our facilities. He can come on a bit strong with his suggestions and requests, but his generosity knows no bounds. He laughed when he saw that the tired old computers in our library were running on Windows XP, and he promptly ordered us twenty shiny new computers at his expense.
