TEN YEARS LATER: AN UPDATED LOOK AT CT’S DRGS

The Connecticut School Finance Project (CSFP) has updated the 2006 District Reference Groups (DRGs) to determine what they would look like today. The 2016 DRGs were determined through calculations by the CSFP and are not official classifications produced by the Connecticut State Department of Education. While the 2016 DRGs are not official, they were calculated using the same methodology and variables used by the CSDE in 2006 to determine the existing DRGs. See where your district would fall now.

LEGAL MAILBAG

The Legal Mailbag column is written by Attorney Thomas Mooney of the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education. Readers are invited to submit short, law-related questions of practical concern to school administrators. One question and its answer will be published in this column each week. Questions may be edited; authors will not be identified; and answers cannot be considered formal legal advice. Please submit questions to: legalmailbag@casciac.org

Dear Legal Mailbag:
Last year, I was a first-year principal at my elementary school and, as I got my sea legs, I let various things slide. However, this year I have a much better idea about the way my school should run. As we approach the end of the school year, I want my staff to be more business-like and focused on improving student achievement.
