ARC PROGRAM LAUNCHES NEW STUDENT PROFILE DATA BASE

In response to frequent requests for information about its teacher-prep candidates, the Alternate Route to Certification Program has launched a new Student Profile Data Base. The data base, which can be accessed at http://www.ctohe.org/arcprofiles/default.shtml, allows visitors to view information that ARC students have authorized to be shared with districts. The information includes candidates’ content area, name and personal e-mail address, college/university degrees, counties in which they are interested in pursuing jobs and additional information about their interests. School administrators are welcome to contact students directly if they are looking for Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP) candidates, Long Term Substitute (LTS) teachers or new staff members. The information in the profiles will be updated periodically. Please share this information with those in your district who are responsible for hiring.

LEGAL MAILBAG

The Legal Mailbag column is written by Attorney Thomas Mooney of the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education. Readers are invited to submit short, law-related questions of practical concern to school administrators. One question and its answer will be published in this column each week. Questions may be edited; authors will not be identified; and answers cannot be considered formal legal advice. Please submit questions to: legalmailbag@casciac.org

Dear Legal Mailbag:
It is tough being a coach, as I know from personal experience. I was the boys hoops coach before getting this gig as principal. Given my experience, I like to give the coaches at my school advice as to how they can better do their jobs. I confess that they don’t always appreciate my insights into their deficiencies, and some have even complained to the athletic director that I should knock it off.
