TRUMP’S EXECUTIVE ORDER ON “SANCTUARY JURISDICTIONS” HAS IMPORTANT IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
President Trump’s recent executive order entitled “Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States” bolsters federal resources and provides avenues for increased state and local cooperation in immigration enforcement efforts. Particular provisions targeting “sanctuary jurisdictions,” however, are being assailed as unconstitutional by state leaders and the mayors of more than a half-dozen municipalities from across the state. A recent CT Education Law Blog piece, written by Attorney John Khalil of Berchem, Moses & Devlin, P.C., discusses the opposition to the order in the context of public school education.

The Legal Mailbag column is written by Attorney Thomas Mooney of the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education. Readers are invited to submit short, law-related questions of practical concern to school administrators. One question and its answer will be published in this column each week. Questions may be edited; authors will not be identified; and answers cannot be considered formal legal advice. Please submit questions to: legalmailbag@casciac.org
Dear Legal Mailbag: Life is not all meetings and cafeteria supervision. Two months ago, I met a wonderful woman on Tinder, and our relationship has blossomed ever since. We have a lot in common because she is a teacher at another school in my district, and she is even a Red Sox fan! But I got a little carried away, and now I need your help.
