Minutes

In attendance: Richard Dellinger, Jeff Fournier, Charles Hines, John Lineen, David Pearson, Donna Schilke, Earle Bidwell
1. Exemplary School Climate: the committee received the report from the visiting committee. After considerable discussion, it was decided that while the applicant school had a positive school climate, it did not provide sufficient evidence to be considered exemplary. Earle will draft a letter based on the score sheets and circulate it among the visiting committee and committee chair.

2. Exemplary Schools Recognition: Teaching and Learning (Curriculum)
a. A subcommittee of John Lineen, Jeff Fournier and Earle Bidwell presented an outline for a rubric for determining exemplary teaching, learning and assessment. The rubric was adapted from “Breaking Ranks in the Middle” and has three levels: emerging, progressive and exemplary. The committee accepted the recommendation to use the BRIM strategies in their entirety. Committee members in attendance accepted assignments to work of selected pages. Earle and John will work on Recommendation 19, Donna and Chip Recommendation 20, Dave and Rich Recommendation 21, Jeff and Ralph Recommendation 22. Earle will email the appropriate pages. They should be emailed back in advance of the next meeting in order to prepare packets for the committee.
