M.L. Fine Arts
Minutes from meeting of 3/5/2007

Connecticut Association of Schools
Middle Level fine Arts Committee
Minutes
March 5, 2007

In attendance were: Meg Shea, Dave Holland, Tori Savage, John Jones and Earle Bidwell

1. Presenters: The committee was pleased to learn that there are currently twelve presenters for Arts in the Middle with two still to be heard from. They represent several new presenters and mediums including: Tori Savage, Pen and Ink; Robert Calafiore, Photography; Kathleen Kelly, The Artist in Me; Joe Costardo, Computer Photoshop.
2. The committee set upper limits on the number of students that can be assigned to each section of each class. The numbers are dictated by the medium and safety concerns.
3. Janice will be sending out the materials list to the presenters and the due date for return is April 27th.
4. Meg and Jen will inventory supplies and place materials order shortly after.
5. Dave will be bringing student assistants and other committee members will do the same. The target number is one for each presenter; however, fewer is probably more realistic.
6. The time for the conference has been adjusted. Each session will run for two hours and fifteen minutes. Instead of a gallery walk, photos will be taken of student work and posted on the CAS website.
7. Janice and Erin will handle registration on the day of the conference. Meg will ask Vaughn to pick up the continental breakfast for the presenters and committee.
8. Dave has asked us to provide a second toaster oven. It was suggested tat we could probably secure one from a tag sale.
9. It was decided to recognize all of the artists during lunch. Accordingly, Janice will request a microphone from the university.
10. Diane Cook will be presenting for the sixth year. As the only presenter who has participated in all of the conference, it was decided to recognize her with a plaque and flowers at a dinner in her honor. Ear and Meg will find a suitable date for a dinner in the Hartford area and invite the other committee members to join them.
11. Tori Savage has volunteered to once again help Janice put the packets together.

It is not likely that there will be a need for another committee meeting before Arts in the Middle.
