Connecticut Association of Schools Middle Level Fine Arts Committee Minutes January 7, 2008
In attendance were: Jennifer Chase, Vaughn Ramseur, Meg Shea and Earle Bidwell
1. Arts in the Middle 2008 a. Publicity: The committee brainstormed ways to increase the visibility of Arts in the Middle. Ideas included: i. Generate an email list of teachers who have attended the past couple of years and email them directly; ii. Create a poster that can be distributed to art teachers to place in art supply stores in CT; iii. Contact art administrators and/or department heads in school districts and middle schools. b. Brochure; Last years brochure was reviewed and a statement for permission to photograph was added. The statement will read Art Teachers: Please inform parents of your participant students that photographs may be taken for publicity purposes. CAS must be informed in advance of any students whose parents do not want them photographed. We should also add a column on the registration form for Permission to Photograph Y or N. c. Presenters: the list of presenters was reviewed and updated. It appears that in addition to the names Janice has heard from, we have the following acceptances: Bob Calafiore, Paul Hoffman, Barbara Scavotto-Early and Tori Savage. Committee members will endeavor to contact the presenters who have not responded. 2. Other Business a. It was suggested that confirmations and requests for materials be sent as we receive acceptances rather than wait for a deadline. This will allow the committee to get a head start on inventory and assembling materials.. b. Vaughn Ramseur came across a website for Sir Real fruit Juice that indicated that the company supports and/or sponsors art. Members will check out the website in hopes that there might be some possible support for Arts in the Middle. c. Jen will contact Janice to get a copy of the letter for high school volunteers so as not to be too late to get help from Bristol. d. Jen Chase will be having her graduate exhibit on May 2nd at the Bristol Carousel Museum. More details will be forthcoming. 3. Future Meetings The next two meetings will be work sessions in the basement on March 10th and April 21st.
