In attendance were: Anthony Carrano, Jeffrey Cryan, Richard Dellinger, Jody Goeler, Joe Scheideler, James Slattery, Judy Abrams, Norma Posocco and Earle Bidwell
A special meeting was called to deal with Commissioner McQuillan’s Secondary School Reform Proposal. Following the New England Symposium and the commissioner’s request, a position statement was drafted by the symposium participants and prepared for the combined boards’ action.
Earle Bidwell shared the chronology outlined below culminating in a letter to the commissioner.
• CT High School Reform
• Listening sessions around the state
• Commissioner’s assertions that high school reform is really secondary reform
• ML Board developed talking points for commissioner’s sessions *
• Work put on hold for New England Symposium attended by commissioner et.al. *
• Changed focus as result of feedback (Building Blocks) *
• Notes from Symposium: Similarities and differences from Board’s talking points*
• Creation of three work groups *
• Notes from meeting of symposium group (no handout)
• Commissioner’s question about certification
• Commissioner’s request for a middle level position statement
• Statement with history and sources.
• Letter to Commissioner McQuillan
The combined boards voted unanimously to endorse a letter supporting secondary school reform in Connecticut.
