Connecticut Association of Schools Middle Level Professional Studies Committee Minutes April 24, 2008
In attendance were: Fred Baruzzi, Richard Dellinger, Sue Dumas, Jaret Kulmann, Donna Schilke and Earle Bidwell 1. Exemplary Practices a. Action Items: The committee voted unanimously to grant exemplary practice recognition as follows: i. Climate 1. Chippens Hill Middle School 2. John Winthrop Middle School ii. Teaming: Chippens Hill Middle School
b. Re-certification for previous winners now beyond 3 years will go forward with site visits. The schools and the visiting sub-committee chairs are: i. Mystic Middle School (Teaming) Fred Baruzzi ii. Albert D. Griswold (Teaming) Donna Schilke iii. East Hartford Middle School (Teaming) Earle Bidwell and Sue Dumas 2. Exemplary Practices: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment a. Recommendation 30 was distributed and entered into the record. b. The majority of the time was spent on processing Recommendations 24. A draft was completed. c. It was decided to attempt to complete the remaining recommendations before the next meeting. Donna and Fred will work on #25; Rich will take the first three rows of #27 and Earle the last 4 rows; Sue and Jaret will take #28. 3. Assistant Executive Directors Report: a. Earle reported on the work being done by the Middle Level work group appointed by Commissioner McQuillan regarding secondary school reform. b. Rich Dellinger expressed interest in Unified sports. Earle will send him information. c. The committee can anticipate some new members as at least two building administrators have expressed interest in joining. They will be added to the list.
