CAS Middle Level Fine Arts Committee
Minutes
October 24, 2002

In attendance were Vaughn Ramseur, Meg Ryan, Joyce St. Germain, Barbara Ripa and Earle Bidwell

1.0 New Member Initiative
Earle Bidwell reported that a flyer had been developed and mailed to all of the art teachers who attended last year’s conference. It is hoped that this group will yield a couple of new committee members.

2.0 Workshop Topics
The majority of the meeting time was spent in a review of last year’s offerings and brainstorming new ideas. With a goal of growing the program, maximum numbers were also suggested.
· Copper Sculpture – offer as a double session for 12 or 13 students. Three assistants are optimal, two are minimal.
· Hot Wax Batik – double session with two assistants for 15 students maximum.
· Pastels – 20 students
· Computer Arts – Limited by number of computers
· Charcoal Drawing – 16 to 18 students with knowledgeable assistants with artistic backgrounds
· Cartooning – 20 students maximum
· Caricatures – 20 students maximum
· Acrylic & Mixed Media – 18 students
· Graphic Design – 20 students
· Hand colored Photograph – 20 students
· Water color – 18 students
· Oil Portraiture – 15 students
· Pleine Aire Pastels (outside) or acrylics – 15 students
· Fashion Design – 12 students
· Basket making – 15 students
· Native American Instrument Making – 12 students
· Mono Printing – 18 students
· Jewelry Making – 15 students

The above list is preliminary and will be refined by availability of presenters and space.

Committee members will contact potential artist to determine interest.


3.0 Sponsor
To date, we do not have a sponsor, however, there are several leads. Mr. Ramseur and Mr. Bidwell will also be meeting with Dean Calafiore at University of Hartford to explore grant opportunities.

4.0 Other
Dean Calafiore has a list of artists who may assist with the conference.

5.0 The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for January 23, 2003 – Come dressed to inventory art supplies.
