In attendance were” Fred Baruzzi, Richard Dellinger, Bernadette Hamad, Ida Hickerson, Patricia Jones, Susan Muirhead, Donna Schilke, Walter Willett and Earle Bidwell

1. Exemplary Practices Action Item
a. Albert D. Griswold Middle School (Teaming) - Donna Schilke reported on a favorable visit and recommended exemplary teaming status. The committee voted to extend the status for another three years.
b. Western Middle School Greenwich submitted a new application for exemplary climate status. Donna Schilke agreed to chair the visit accompanied by Bernadette Hamad and Ida Hickerson. Walt Willett will be an alternate. Earle will notify the school by letter and inform them that they will receive a call from Donna.
2. Exemplary Practices (Re-certification for schools beyond 3 years) update:
a. Mystic Middle School (Teaming) - Fred Baruzzi visited the school and submitted a report. It will be an action item in March.
b. Canton and Two Rivers Magnet - Earle Bidwell reported that both schools were in receipt of their certificates and appreciative of the award.
3. Exemplary Practices: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment: Work Session
a. Recommendation 24 was completed
b. Recommendations 25, 27, 28 will be put online as Google Documents in an effort to expedite the work.
4. Assistant Executive Director’s Report:
a. In anticipation of a reduction in CAS revenue over the near future, the committee was invited to suggest cost-cutting measures. Among the suggestions were:
i. Reduce workshops and conferences in large venues
ii. Maintain the smaller single topic workshops at the CAS Center
iii. Use local talent ie. educators from exemplary schools
iv. Combine committee meetings with workshops where possible
v. Increase the use of focal groups at member schools
b. Secondary School Reform is going forward. A letter fro Commissioner McQuillan was shared that invited school districts to participate in the initial planning.
c. CAS will be hosting an Anti Bullying Program in Cheshire on March 23, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.
d. The middle level is joining the elementary level in participating in a Volunteer Recognition Banquet at the Aqua-Turf on March 25, 2009
5. Roundtable was accompanied by a pizza supper. Unfortunately, one of the committee members was in receipt of an extra dose of iron in his pie and CAS has scratched one local restaurant from its list of food providers.
6. The next meeting will be on March 19, 2009.
