Connecticut Association of Schools Middle Level Student Leadership Conference Committee Minutes March 3, 2009
In attendance were: Paul Cavaliere, Sue Homrok, Candy Perez, Joe Scheideler, Stafford Thomas, Janice Grecco, Earle Bidwell
1. Review of 2009 Conference a. What went right? i. Administrative organization (Janice Grecco); ii. Support of a large active committee; many hands on deck for Q&A directions etc.; iii. The opening session was a nice introduction to the day and provided a buffer for late arrivals; iv. Lunch went smoothly with staggered waves; v. The new evaluation format and response; Signage; vi. Maximum enrollment (increased request for multiple teams) vii. Large number of volunteer presenters. b. What could we do better? (See Changes for next year below c. What did the participants write? (See attached summary) d. Changes for Next Year: i. Assign committee members to make personal contact with each presenter prior to the conference to give layout for the day and handle last minutes needs; ii. Clearly define the roles of committee members prior to the conference (an organizational meeting would be helpful) for triage of problems and concerns; iii. Consider half-day assignments for committee members who would prefer to be there for less than a full day; iv. Integrate student presenters into sessions when they are not presenting; add language to the brochure that clearly states in advance that students from the same school will be dispersed to other groups and will not travel together throughout the day; v. Change the set-up for bagged breakfast; it was awkward at best; vi. Look into changing the bagged breakfast; it was not popular with many students; 2. The meeting concluded at 6:00 following a pizza supper and informal roundtable. 3. The next meeting will be in September of the 2009-2010 school year.
