January 7, 2003
In attendance were: Michael Rafferty, Rochelle Schwartz, Carole Janssen and Earle Bidwell
1.0 School of the Year/ Teacher of the Year Celebrations: This year’s celebrations in East Hartford, Mystic and Mansfield were very successful and well received. Members read letters of thanks from recipients. It was decided to continue the practice of recognizing teacher and school of the year in their own communities. Winners may choose a banquet, evening reception or a school based celebration. CAS will organize the event of choice.
2.0 School of the Year
2.1 After considerable discussion it was decided that with the development of a new instrument, CAS will henceforth select one school of the year rather than one, two or three.
2.2 Invitation to Nominate: The revised nomination, closely allied with the Turning Points 2000 recommendations, was review and accepted.
2.3 Cover Sheet and Revised Guidelines for Scoring were similarly adopted
2.4 Holistic Scoring Sheet: The new draft that supports the above documents was distributed and discussed. Members were asked to review it in detail and send suggestions to Earle Bidwell no later than January 28.
3.0 Fall Conference: A discussion of the fall conference led to a decision to pursue discussion with the high school program committee to determine the feasibility of holding a high/middle school conference next year.
4.0 Earle Bidwell reported on the activities of the other middle level boards and committees. For further information, members were referred to the web-site where all minutes of middle level meetings are posted.
