CAS Middle Level Fine Arts CommitteeMinutes
January 30, 2003
In attendance were: Vaughn Ramseur, Barbara Ripa, Meg Shea, Joyce St. Germaine and Earle Bidwell
1.0 Results of New Committee Member Initiative: Mr. Bidwell reported that there was one a positive response to the call for additional committee members from a magnet school in New London but to date nothing is confirmed. It was suggested that we e-mail a letter to principals asking for their support in recommending art teachers for the committee. Furthermore, committee members will personally ask teachers of their acquaintance. Mr. Bidwell will solicit additional names from other CAS committee meetings.
2.0 Workshop Presenters: To date we have a cartoonist, caricature artist, pleine aire pastel artist and a basketmaker. Mrs. Ripa will contact Joanne Hunter to determine if there is any interest from any of the artists who participated last year. She will contact Mr. Ramseur with the results. Mr. Ramseur will contact Dean Calafiore for additional suggestions when the results of Mrs. Ripa’s contact are known.
3.0 Assistant Executive Director’s Report; Mr. Bidwell reported on a change in emphasis of time and resources supported by the middle level boards. Much more of his time will be devoted to “No Child Left Behind,” advocacy for middle level and middle level certification. Middle level board members and committee members will hopefully increase their participation to ensure continuity of ongoing projects and initiatives.
4.0 “A Save the Date” memo will be placed on the website
5.0 A materials inventory will take place at the February 27th meeting. Registration materials will also be reviewed at the February meeting.
