Connecticut Association of Schools Middle Level Leadership Minutes February 3, 2003
.0 Welcome to Mary Leger Executive Director of Connecticut Association of Student Councils (CASC)
.0 Presenters: There are several presenter blocks still outstanding and some presenters we have not heard from. Mr. Heffernan will call Hamden M.S. to ascertain the status of two presenters, Mr. Baruzzi will attempt to contact Trooper Brent Aiken. Ms. Leger suggested we move the Team Building group to Building a Climate and Mr. Bidwell will contact Matt Cavadon to do a workshop in addition to his keynote. Mr. Monroe will also attempt to secure on additional presenter. The high school groups will fill any remaining vacancies.
.0 Large Group presentations 3.1 Canton High School: Mr. Scheideler reported that the Esteem Group from Canton High School consists of 15 to 20 players. They will do several skits, interact with audience and repeat their performance. Each audience will have approximately 100 people. They will be scheduled for Alumni Hall 3.2 Smith School: Mrs. Alvaro reported that the Smith School Peer Educators under the direction of Bob Doolittle has prepared age appropriate skits backed up by the Backbeat Singers. She and Mr. Bidwell will audition the group on Friday morning. After some discussion, it was decided that street language would not be appropriate for the projected audience. The group will tentatively be booked into Buckman Theater. They will also play twice to about 100 students each.
.0 Schedule 4.1 Tentative Schedule: Mr. Heffernan shared a tentative schedule that he prepared and as a result of the meeting will update it and send a second version to the CAS office. It was noted that 21 rooms will be needed for the final session and there is a need for internal signage. Mr. Bidwell and Mrs. Grecco will visit Quinnipiac in the nexe two weeks and finalize details regarding space. 4.2 CASC Awards: Ms. Leger reported on the desirability of having time to present CASC awards at the conference. Due to the number and the limited time, she or (Lea Fabrizio) will present the Spirit Award and do the others in a different format. 4.3 Opening Session: Matt Cavadon has asked about the minimum and maximum time for his address and whether he could show a videotape. I was decided that the opening remarks, including recognition of the sponsor, should take 10 minutes, the musical performance 15 minutes and the keynote 20-25 minutes. This will leave time for a greeting from Lea Fabrizio and housekeeping details. Matt Cavadon will be asked to save the video for a breakout session.
.0 Advisor Session Presenters: Ms. Leger and Ann Malafronte from Unified Sports will address the chaperones. Ms. Leger will require about 45 minutes and Ms. Msalifronte about 30 minutes.
.0 Assistant Executive Directors Report: Mr. Bidwell indicated that, with the support of the middle level boards, a larger portion of his time will be devoted to middle level advocacy, middle level certification and No Child Left Behind legislation. Members of boards and committees have been supportive and expressed a willingness to help fill the gaps. Also, CAS would like to have a booth at the NELMS Conference in Providence. It will require volunteers to staff it. Mr. Goeler signed up for a two hour slot from 10:00 am 12:00 on Tuesday.
