Keynote Speaker: Allen November
Summary
1. Present: Dave Perry, Chair; Irene Turek, Mike Buckley, Earle Bidwell
2. Three names were accepted for the luncheon speaker to be asked in this order:
• the new SDE commissioner
• Jack Berckemeyer (National Association of Middle Schools)
• Susan Frost (Alliance for Excellent Education).
3. The following “break-outs” were agreed to:
• Allen November (continuing the theme of his keynote)
• Data-Driven Decision Making (Jack Berckemeyer if he is the luncheon speaker)
• E-Courses and E-Portfolios (Branford and Valley Regional)
• Using Drug Testing and Breathalizers (Ellington, East Haven, & Greenwich)
• Support for NCLB Schools in Need of Improvement (Christina Kishamota & Katie Moirs, SDE)
• NEASC – Rubrics Done Well (Dennis Carithers and selected schools)
• Comprehensive Guidance Services Model (SDE)
• Improving Attendance (CT Attendance Consortium)
4. The conference schedule was developed:
7:45 – 8:30 Registration and Venders
8:30 – 9:30 Keynote
9:40 – 10:40 Workshops – Session I
10:40 – 11:20 H.S. Forums* and Venders
11:20 – 12:20 Workshops – Session II
12:30 – 1:15 Luncheon
1:15 – 2:00 Luncheon Speaker
*Forum Topics: Staying out of trouble with N.H.S. and C.A.P.T. test schedules.
5. A pre-registration format will be used to schedule workshop attendance with registrants being asked to list in order their top three choices.
