In attendance were: Sue Dumas, Diane Hartman Chesley, John Lineen, Ralph White and Earle Bidwell.
1. Impact
a. The Curriculum and Instruction Position Paper was reviewed and final adjustments made. The final document is attached to the minutes.
b. Despite significant efforts by the CAS staff, there remains a serious shortage of contributing writers for IMPACT. A brainstorming session yielded several suggestions. Among them are to invite the CAS teacher of the year, principal of the year and representatives from the school of the year to be featured in the journal. It was also mentioned that state affiliates for NMSA are developing a repository of articles that will be available to state publications.
c. Themes for next years issue will need to be developed at the next meeting of the committee.
2. Exemplary Practice Teaming. CAS is currently publicizing the exemplary practice through the Bulletin, website, IMPACT and mailings. It was suggested that NELMS spotlight schools, and other schools honored by other organizations be sent an application. Furthermore, that a letter be drafted to superintendents inviting them to encourage schools with good programs to apply.
3. Exemplary Practice School Climate Work in progress. In order to expedite the new initiative, committee members are asked to download (attached) and prepare suggested language and look for items for the first two sections (safe and healthy environment, and welcomes students and visitors) in advance of the next meeting.
* **The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for May 6, 2004***
