Connecticut Association of Schools Middle Level Professional Studies Committee Minutes September 16, 2004
In attendance were Ann Richardson, Earle Bidwell, Ralph White, John Lineen, David Russell, Ann Cox, Fred Baruzzi, Richard Dellinger, Sue Dumas, Tom Scarise and David Telesca
1.0 Greetings and Introductions: Chairperson Richardson greeted the committee members and all were introduced to new members. 2.0 IMPACT 2.1 Progress Report: "Curriculum & Instruction Mr. Bidwell reported that the Curriculum and Instruction was in the final stages of editing and was slated to go to the printer next week. 2.2 Shared Articles: NMSA now has a repository of articles by and for state affiliate leaders. This repository will allow CAS to tap into superior articles from other states to round out the submissions of Connecticut authors. It will also potentially give greater exposure to those who write for IMPACT. 2.3 2005 Theme(s): The following were suggested as themes for the next issue of IMPACT. Differentiated Instruction Climate Technology (instructional) School construction Integrated learning Best instructional practices It was decided that because Climate is the next area for exemplary practice certification that it would be the most appropriate for the next issue. It was further decided that there would be an emphasis on student to teacher, teacher to student, administrator to teacher, etc. in the promotional material 3.0 Exemplary Practice "Teaming" Letters: The committee was asked for suggestions for determining recipients of the invitation to apply letter for teaming certification that was developed in May. The committee suggested the NELMS website and SDE for spotlight and blue ribbon schools so that no schools would be left out. Some other individual schools were also named. 4.0 Exemplary Practice "Climate" The bulk of the meeting time was devoted to the Work in Progress 5.0 Assistant Executive Director's Report: Mr. Bidwell reported on upcoming professional development activities for middle level and the weekly CAS Newswire. 6.0 The next meeting is scheduled for October 21, 2004
