Connecticut Association of High School Principals Board Minutes October 4, 2004
Present: Joseph Bacewicz, Kathleen Barmak, Veronica LeDuc, Jeffrey Matthieu, Robert Pitocco, Greg Shugrue, Dennis Carrithers
1. The CAS goals for 2004-2004 were reviewed to determine the Boards role in completing them. Discussion followed on recruiting new members of boards and committees, encouraging colleagues to become active, the format of the annual meeting, certification and placement of administrators. 2. The CAS three-year plan was reviewed for status of goals affecting the High School Board. 3. October 19 Conference jointly sponsored with the State Department of Education on Breaking Ranks II and High School Reform has had low registration. Board members agreed to call colleagues to encourage attendance and agreed to serve as facilitators for small group sessions. 4. Board agreed to a joint project with the State Department of Education on assembling best practices in high schools. Schools will be surveyed to gather information. Dissemination will be in conjunction with the state in ways to be determined including website links. 5. Topics were suggested for the January 28 middle/high school conference with the theme of Closing the Achievement Gap (same as last year). They included security and safe schools, gang identification, bridging the achievement gap for special education students, closing the gap for other school sub-groups issues regarding the BEST programs communication and feedback to new teachers, and schools graduation requirements as reported under PA 02-166. 6. For mini-conferences this year, topics to be repeated from previous years include a panel on NEASC accreditation, a conversation with the commissioner, and a joint program with the Governors Partnership Prevention. 7. Greg Shugrue will serve as vice chair of the board. 8. A joint meeting with the Legislative Committee will be held, possibly at the next meeting. 9. The next meeting will be on November 1, 2004, at 3:30 p.m.
