CAS ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ COMMITTEE

SUMMARY
September 27, 2004

1. The May 17 minutes were amended to read that Linda Carlson, Donna Hayward, Donna Schilke will be Conference Co-Chairs to assist Kathy Barmak with the 28th Annual Assistant Principals’ Conference.

2. The Subcommittee for Planning the Annual Conference will meet October 4, 2004.

3. Meeting dates and focus topics for the 2004-2005 school year were set as follows:

October 25 – Legal Issues with Tom Mooney of Shipman and Goodwin (meeting to be held at CAS)
November 15 – Improving Morale (a panel presentation to be held at Masuk High School, Monroe.
January 10 – Technology (at Westbrook High School)
February 7 – Planning Meeting for the Conference/Grant Writing (to be held at CAS)
March – Annual Conference (date and site TBD)
May 16 – Final meeting and de-briefing of conference (to be held at CAS)

4. Another session on technology may be scheduled if possible at another regional site around the state dependent on availability of presenters.

5. Sharing of good programs: The programs shared included the Breakthrough Coach, in-school suspension, on-going meetings for new teachers, regular and special education common planning time, early morning restrictions on student access, climate of civility, mentoring students who are frequent discipline problems, student referrals for drug treatment, 9th grade orientation, recognition of veteran teachers, parade of flags, student forums over lunch, positive climate awards, personal support of teachers, ½ hour “Time to Read” daily, grant writing success.

6. Next Meeting Date, October 25, 2004, at CAS office with presentation on recent developments in school law.
