M.L. Leadership Committee Minutes from meeting of 1/4/2005
Connecticut Association of Schools Middle Level Leadership Conference Committee Minutes January 4, 2005 In attendance were: Tom Heffernan, Fred Baruzzi, Jody Goeler, Joe Scheideler and Earle Bidwell
1. Progress to date a. Advisor Sessions: JoAnn Freiberg from Operation Respect has agreed to do the first advisor session and Troy Monroe and members of his staff will do the second session on Effective Behavioral Support. b. Large Group Breakout: We are still in need of a second large group presentation. Earle will call Fran Walsh Intermediate School to inquire about their peer education program. c. Opening Program: A productive discussion about this new activity yielded the following thoughts and conclusions. i. Jennifer Buckley should be invited to our next meeting. If she is not available, some of us should meet with her at her convenience. ii. We need to script the opening statements to be used by the high school leaders so that there is a uniform, welcoming first expressions. iii. Jody will give a general greeting over the PA after the first one or two activities. iv. The picture format and numbers should be determined after a discussion with Matt Fischer to ensure that we get pictures in a size and format that we can handle.* 2. Update on presenters a. The following have agreed to be presenters to date: John Langan (or a substitute), Dan Levy with new partner Andrew Marziano, Ron Byrd from Hamden Middle School who will present on anger management, Matt Cavadon, Gina Faford, Jennifer Taylor, Bob Doolittle, Kelly Frenette. This is a total of seven confirmed adult presenters or presenter groups. Earle will determine the number of high school groups with Jen Buckley. b. Earle has received expressions of interest from two new presenters and will pursue both. c. Fred Baruzzi will call Old Saybrook to check on two other possibilities d. Earle will call Carole Alvaro about two possibilities from M.S.P. e. Earle will e-mail the breakout descriptions to committee members to aid in recruiting others.
