High School Professional Studies Committee Minutes
October 24, 2005
Present: Andrea Lavery, Scott Leslie, Stephen Murphy, Karissa Niehoff, Linda Yankowski, Dennis Carrithers
1. The publication on personalization is at the printer and will be available to be mailed to schools by the end of the month.
2. In response to the email sent to principals on suggested topics for the committee to consider this year, three areas came back: assessment, connecting student learning outside the school, and alternatives to the senior year.
3. The committee also suggested differentiated instruction, professional learning communities, grouping practices, co-teaching for special education, looking at student work, using assessment to inform instruction, and use of final/mid-term exams.
4. After further discussion, the committee will be putting together some further questions to ask around the topic of assessment as the general topic. To refine this further committee members are asked to submit to Dennis specific questions that focus on the principal’s role in and what is in place for looking at students work and performance to drive instruction.
5. Each committee member is asked to submit the questions to Dennis by email or by phone by November 7th.
6. Next committee meeting date is Monday, December 12, at CAS at noon. The committee will also be exploring ways the expansion of the CAS website can be used to distribute committee information in the future.
7. For planning purposes, the January 30th at CAS at noon is also on the calendar for a committee meeting.
