Minutes from meeting of 1/19/2006
1. Exemplary Practice, “Climate”a. Report from Eastern M. S. visit (Action Item) The visiting committee comprised of Diane Hartman Chesley (Chair) Jeff Fornier and David Telesca presented an extremely detailed written report on their visit to Eastern Middle School. Jeff and David also embellished the report with some further insights. After a brief discussion, the committee unanimously endorsed their report and voted to grant recognition to Eastern.
b. The three benchmark schools and the three additional schools granted exemplary practice recognition will receive a certificate, letter of congratulations and a press release. They will also be recognized on the CAS website.
c. Old Lyme Visiting Committee: Jeff Fornier has agreed to chair the visiting committee. Other members are John Lineen, Fred Baruzzi and Sue Dumas.
2. Impact: Focus Topic “Closing the Achievement Gap” The majority of the meeting was devoted to refining and prioritizing the belief statements that will be published in “IMPACT.” The committee condensed a large list down to ten essential statements. Earle Bidwell was asked to tweak the language and to send to final draft on to Chairperson Richardson for approval. It is expected that the journal will be in the hands of the printer in February
3. Assistant Executive Director’s Report; Earle Bidwell reported on an upcoming middle level symposium to be held in New Hampshire for New England middle level leaders and state department personnel.
