Looking For Middle Schools For Helmet Study

The Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut (BIAC) is working with The Oregon Center for Applied Science (ORCAS) to conduct a middle school helmet safety study. The study is funded by a grant from the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development NIH) to educate kids, parents and educators about the need to wear helmets and protect one’s brain.

BIAC is looking for middle schools to participate in the study. In addition to the educational benefits, participating schools can earn up to $3,000 that can be used at the school’s discretion. Schools are eligible to participate if they have ten - fifteen or more students who travel to school on bikes, scooters or long-boards.
For more information about BIAC, along with materials that outline the details of the helmet study project, including what is involved for a school to participate and how a school may receive funds for participation in the study, contact Ms. Deb Shulansky, BIAC’s Director of Community Outreach and Support, at dshulansky@biact.org. or 860-219-0291 x302.
