WATERBURY -- Nick Cacace punched in a 29-yard field goal with 1:47 left in the game, lifting top-seeded Brookfield to a 16-14 win over second-seeded and defending Class M champion Ledyard in the state final Saturday at Municipal Stadium.

Trevor Treibt, the game's Most Valuable Player, led the Bobcats (12-1) to their second state title and first in 13 years with 93 all-purpose yards and a touchdown.

The senior captain also came up with two interceptions, including one with 53 seconds left in the game after Ledyard drove the ball to Brookfield 28.

The Bobcat defense, which held the Colonels (10-3) scoreless after the first quarter, came up with three interceptions off Ledyard quarterback J.J. Jablonski, helping Brookfield rally from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit.

Barquis Haley led the Colonel offense with 124 yards rushing 19 carries and Sam Saccomano had 118 yards and a touchdown on five catches.

DANBURY -- The Brookfield High Bobcats overcame six turnovers thanks a stout defense which came up with three takeaways, a safety and held Avon to under 300 yards of total offense in Brookfield's 36-19 win over the fourth-seeded Falcons in the Class M semifinals at Danbury High.

Brookfield's senior running back/linebacker Trevor Treibt was all over the field, piling up 210 all-purpose yards and scoring three touchdowns.

His twin brother Travis Treibt added 72 all-purpose yards and a score and Bobcat quarterback Jordan Burandt was 14 of 22 for 215 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Avon, which was making its first appearance in the state tournament, was led by Mike D'Onofrio, who finished with 73 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

J.J. Jablonski was 12 of 22 for 260 yards and four touchdowns as defending champion Ledyard beat previously unbeaten Cheney Tech of Manchester Tuesday, 43-0.

Sam Saccomano had five catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns for the second seeded Colonels (10-2) and Fred Hewett added five catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Also, Barquis Haley ran 17 times for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Troy Wigmore had 24 carries for 94 yards for the Beavers (10-1).
