West Haven - Richie Vitale ran 42 times for 303 yards and two touchdowns as top-seeded New London beat No. 2 Seymour, 27-18, to win the CIAC Class SS championship at Strong Stadium.

Casey Cochran completed 10 of 15 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns with an interception for New London (12-1) and Nick Singleton added six catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Also, Bryce Childs, Dan Hill and Micah Bowe each had a sack.

Seymour's Mike Osiecki, the state's Gatorade Football Player of the Year, was held to 40 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
Connor Shugrue was 14 of 26 for 200 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Wildcats (11-2). Taylor Searles added five catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Tom Eshenfelder recovered a fumble in the end zone on the first play of the second half and Richie Vitale ran for three second-half touchdowns to lead top-seeded New London to a 27-13 win over No. 4 Montville and advance to the Class SS state championship game.

New London (11-1) took advantage of eight Montville turnovers -- seven in the second half. Vitale finished with 75 yards rushing and freshman quarterback Casey Cochran threw for 114 yards for the Whalers, who held Montville running back Tyler Girard-Floyd to a season-low 16 yards on 14 carries.

Skyler McNair ran for a 39-yard touchdown and J.P. Morales threw a scoring pass to Jesse Sutherland for Montville (9-3), which lost to New London on the last play of the game in their regular-season game.

Mike Osiecki ran 13 times for 139 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 2 Seymour to a 42-7 victory over No. 3 Rocky Hill in the CIAC Class SS semifinals on Tuesday in Seymour.

Connor Shugrue threw for 130 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores for the Wildcats, who will play New London in Saturday's final at at site and time to be announced.

Taylor Searles also scored for Seymour (11-1).

Fernando Sanchez ran for 56 yards and a touchdown for Rocky Hill (10-2).
