Science of Reading 3 Part Series

With new legislation from the State of CT expecting practices aligned with the Science of Reading, CAS, and eduFocusPLC have partnered together to create a three-part series detailing what the science of reading is, why it is important to make shifts, and how to get this done in your schools and districts. By the end of this series, you will understand what the science of reading is, what the research tells us about best practices in literacy instruction, and have a draft PD plan created for your school or district to put these practices into action with your educators. Each session is from 9:00-11:30 at CAS. Module 1 (May 9): What? What is the Science of Reading? This module will include explicit instruction on the “science of reading” and the components of quality literacy instruction. This will also debunk some myths and incorrect interpretations about implementing this in schools. Module 2 (May 30): Why? This module will include the most common shifts schools must make to align with the “science of reading.” We will conduct a model deep dive into sample school data and look through a different lens to determine why shifts are necessary, followed by a guided analysis of your school/district data. Module 3 (August 12): How? This module will start with explicit instruction around best practices in PD including a sample literacy PD plan. You will participate in a guided work session where you will set goals and establish a “Science of Reading” PD plan for your own school/district. Presenter: Ashley Eichorn
