Ralph DeSantis Award
Brian Levine, senior, WR/FS Staples -- Caught five passes for 83 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown reception to end the first half. He returned Staples' only interception 100 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the second quarter.

Joe Fontana Award
Ryan Piltz, senior, linebacker, Masuk. The senior has 10 tackles, one sack on a defense that held Staples to 91 total yards in the first half. He also served as the team's punter.

TRUMBULL--Brian Levine returned an interception 100 yards in the second quarter and caught a touchdown pass to lead Staples to its second consecutive Class L championship in a 31-6 victory over Masuk. Levine, a senior safety and receiver, caught five passes for 83 yards and was named the Ralph DeSantis MVP for Staples (12-1). Masuk senior linebacker Ryan Plitz had 10 tackles and a sack to earn the Joe Fontana Award.

Masuk (9-2-1) took a 6-0 lead on Anthony Baccarella's 1-yard dive with 6:10 remaining in the first quarter. When Masuk got the ball back, it went 43 yards in seven plays and had a first-and-goal at the Staples 6.

To that point, Masuk quarterback A.J. Krize was 10-for-10. But Levine jumped in front of his pass at the goal line and took it 100 yards the other way with 10:11 remaining in the second quarter. Staples added to its lead at the end of the half when D.J. Stefkovich hit Levine on a 27-yard pass to the Masuk 10 with 17.5 seconds left. Two plays later, he connected with Levine again from 4-yards out to make it 14-6 at halftime.

Staples put the game away on the opening drive of the third quarter. The Wreckers went 72 yards in 13 plays and converted two fourth downs in its own territory before Ryan Bohling scored from 14 yards out to make it 20-0.

Bryan Wrapp added a 19-yard field goal and Stefkovich hit R.J. Marsilio on a 44-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Krize was 14-for-17 for 113 yards, but missed the entire second half after suffering a concussion. Stefkovich completed 7-of-11 passes for 149 yards. Bohling added 77 rushing yards on 16 carries. Matt Allen caught five passes for 30 yards and Ray Palmer caught six passes for 44 yards for Masuk.

Wilton - Ryan Bohling and Lonson Becker combined for 289 yards rushing as top-seeded Staples of Westport held off No. 4 Fitch in the CIAC Class L semifinal Tuesday.

Bohling had 168 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns, including a 30-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter that broke a 21-21 tie. Bohling also had touchdown runs of 1 and 24 yards. Staples quarterback D.J. Stefkovich completed four of nine passes for 132 yards.

He had a 48-yard touchdown pass to Brian Levine that helped the Wreckers (11-1) take a 21-7 halftime lead.
Fitch tied the game in the third quarter on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Justin Walz to Tony Patterson and a 40-yard return of a blocked punt by Barquis Haley.

While Fitch (7-4) was limited to 117 yards on the ground, Walz was 12-for-25 for 170 yards. Ten of those passes went to Patterson, who had 137 receiving yards.

RIDGEFIELD -- Mike Courbron's 21-yard field goal with 10:18 left in regulation lifted Masuk High to an 18-16 victory over Ridgefield in the Class L state semifinals Tuesday night.

The game featured five lead changes.

The game-winning field goal came on fourth down and 4 from the 4 after Masuk recovered a Roger Bel fumble at the Ridgefield 40. Bel rushed for a game-high 126 yards on 17 carries, including a 36-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Ridgefield's Andrew DeRito missed a go-ahead 32-yard field goal into the wind with 5:34 remaining.

Ridgefield had two more possessions but didn't cross midfield. Masuk took a 15-9 lead in the third quarter on a five-yard run by Roberto Muniz. Ridgefield responded with an 82-yard kickoff return by Tyler Kirchoff and DeRito's extra-point kick put the Tigers ahead 16-15 with 5:01 left in the third quarter.
