Legal Question of the Week

mailbag_red_background_resized.jpgDear Legal Mailbag: Our junior class has petitioned the board of education to hold graduation exercises in a very popular locale. Indeed, it is so popular that one must book it more than a year in advance. While the board would be happy to approve this request, with all the weather-related problems in recent years, the board has asked me to guarantee that, not matter what happens, it will be OK to go ahead with graduation on the specified date. Is there any way I can do that?

SBAC Invites Feedback

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) has released draft achievement level descriptors (ALDs) for public review and invites feedback through January 15, 2013. Developed by K-12 teachers, higher education faculty, and content experts, the initial ALDs describe levels of student performance in English language arts/literacy and mathematics on the Smarter Balanced assessments. Smarter Balanced has also released a college content-readiness definition with associated implications for 12th-grade and postsecondary coursework at each achievement level on the 11th-grade assessment. The draft initial ALDs and an online feedback survey are posted on the Smarter Balanced web site.
