(Athletics Division)

MEMBERSHIP IN THE CIAC:

  • Entitles schools to schedule games with other member schools.
  • Entitles schools to conduct high school invitational tournaments under the sanction of the CIAC.
  • Entitles schools to enter CIAC post-season championship playoffs in the 24 CIAC- sponsored sports.
  • Entitles schools to receive all of the services of the CIAC central offices.
  • Safeguards and protects the welfare of the student athletes in member schools through the enforcement of eligibility and tournament regulations.
  • Provides uniformity of rules and regulations so that every athlete and every school "gets a fair shake" in sports competition.
  • Entitles schools to receive rule books and officials publications in all sports for which national high school rule books are published.

THE CIAC PROVIDES MEMBER SCHOOLS WITH:

  • A copy of the CIAC Handbook, a comprehensive reference handbook of all CIAC rules, regulations, policies, position statements, etc., which is of enormous value to school administrators, athletic directors and coaches.
  • Regulation and control of tournaments and meets; promotion of good rapport between schools; sanction of international, national and regular sports competition.
  • Championship playoffs in 24 approved sports for boys and girls.
  • Affiliation with seven major state, regional and national allied organizations.
  • The opportunity to participate in the annual Connecticut High School Scholar Athlete Awards Program, culminating in a statewide banquet that annually draws over 1,600 participants.
  • A Sports Record Book for all CIAC-sponsored sports for distribution to all member schools, the media and other interested persons. (Published periodically)
  • Eligibility forms, track and field entry cards and swimming entry cards.
  • Printed programs for major athletic tournaments.
  • An annual workshop for newly appointed athletic directors to familiarize them with the work and operation of the CIAC.
  • Workshops on a variety of topics such as healthy living, eating disorders, sports psychology, coaching techniques, etc.
