In 1998, recognizing that urban principals face unique challenges and
contend with different issues than many of their colleagues from
suburban or rural schools, CAS established an urban schools committee to
serve the specific needs of urban school administrators.
Last fall, the High School Urban Principals' Committee organized a well attended mini-conference at Kennedy High School in Waterbury on the topic of P.A. 01-166, An Act Concerning the Connecticut Academic Performance Test. The workshop was designed to assist urban schools and their principals in responding to the new legislation. Dr. Lee Hay, Assistant Superintendent in Wallingford, presented on his district's requirement.
